Official weather stations are not always nearby. As a result, we get some very inaccurate pressure, temperature and wind reports from the ‘big sites’ in our area. Personal Weather Station networks empowers everyone to submit and observe very localised weather, especially since there are larger numbers of personal stations. As of 1 January 2020, we are operating and maintaining a weather station in the Tulbagh valley (vicinity Waterval).
We are now a part of the Weather Underground network, and most data for the area comes from our station. This means when the ‘roof breaker’ winds are blowing, weather sites won’t say “2 km/h” anymore. A large part of this community-shared data is thanks to our Patrons and other supporters.
Metrics being monitored and recorded:
- UV / Solar Radiation
- Wind Speed, Gust and Direction
- Atmospheric pressure
- Rain (rate and accumulation)
To view the weather for this area, use one of the following channels:

- Weather Underground mobile app on iOS & Android (station id IWITZE4)
- Weathercloud (Current or Evolution views)
- EcoWITT (requires signing in)
